I built these low birch bookshelves for friends to fit a specific location in their den under some windows. The single middle shelf is adjustable. I used birch veneer plywood and solid birch, because cherry seemed too expensive. The finish is cherry stain, hand rubbed to a low gloss. Notice how the solid birch trim took the stain differently than the thin veneer on the plywood—another lesson in finishing.
