This solid alder coffee table was designed to permit six people to sit around it for dinner. It's 28.5" wide and 50" long, and the overhang is 5.5" on the ends and 4.5" on the sides. The legs are tapered on two faces, and most of the joints are floating tenons. The shelf slats are connected with biscuits and pocket screws.
Finishing was an exercise in HVLP spraying. I started with two coats of TransTint Dark Mission Brown dye stain from Homestead Finishing followed by a coat of Watco Dark Walnut (applied by hand). Next, I sprayed two coats of 1.5lb. cut of dewaxed shellac to seal the stain, and then finished with three coats of semi-gloss precatalyzed lacquer with a light sanding after the first coat.
